Instructing a group of employees in Malaysia how to operate gas detection devices for emergency response and confined space applications.

Loss Control Advisor (1983 - 1986), Arctic Transportation Ltd., Calgary, Alta ATL is a marine company running tugs and barges between Hay River, NWT and Tuktoyaktuk, offshore supply vessels in the Beaufort Sea.

Building an island

This was an accommodation barge with a 400 ton crane which was used to accommodate crews and build drilling islands offshore in the Beaufort Sea.

  • Administer Northern safety program, 10 vessel fleet, dry dock, construction barges and 2 shore operations.
  • Defined work procedures and critical task analysis.
  • Facilitated outside consultants for management training seminars.
  • Liaison with WCB/OH&S
  • Training offshore fire fighting techniques/survival.

Dry dock

Besides the fleet of tug boats, barges and ice breakers, ATL has a floating dry-dock which is towed 20 miles offshore to pick up vessels whose draft was too deep to get into Tuktoyaktuk harbor for repairs.

Safety Superintendent (1981 - 1982), PV Commodity Systems, Calgary, Alta PV's main concern was re-melting sulfur blocks into sulfur pellets for export

Train engine

PV Commodity remelted sulphur blocks, the result of which can be seen on the north shore of Vancouver when you are crossing the Lions Gate bridge.

  • Sulfur Processing (plants located in Rocky Mountain House and Hinton)
  • Developed and implemented complete safety program for each division:
  • Food Services (catered to airlines, corporate functions, work camps).
  • Metal Fabrication (built our plant systems in-house).
  • Land Transport (fleet of 10 liquid sulfur hauling tractor trailers) .
